Oreo Dessert Cups are the kind of no-bake treat that comes together in minutes but looks like you spent hours on it. Layers of crushed Oreo cookies, a rich cream cheese filling, and a fluffy pudding mixture are stacked in individual cups, finished off with a sprinkle of extra cookie crumbs on top. There’s no oven involved, which makes this one of the easiest desserts to pull off, even on a busy day or a last-minute get-together.

Making it at home means you get to control exactly how much sugar goes in and use good-quality cream cheese and milk instead of the artificial fillers found in pre-packaged desserts. It also means you can customize the layers more chocolate, more cookie crunch, whatever you like without changing the basic method.

Quick Tip: Read through the full recipe before you start. Since this is a layered, chilled dessert, having your cups, crushed cookies, and mixing bowls ready ahead of time makes assembly quick and mess-free.

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos. Place 16 Oreo cookies in a zip-top bag and crush them into fine crumbs using a rolling pin, or pulse them in a food processor. Roughly chop the remaining 8 cookies into small chunks and set aside for layering and topping.

  2. Make the pudding. In a bowl, whisk the instant vanilla pudding mix with the cold milk for about 2 minutes, until it starts to thicken. Set aside in the fridge for 5 minutes to fully set.

  3. Make the cream cheese layer. In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy, with no lumps.

  4. Combine. Gently fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture until fully combined, then fold this mixture into the set pudding until smooth and evenly blended.

  5. Assemble the cups. In each serving cup, add a layer of crushed Oreo crumbs at the bottom, followed by a layer of the pudding-cream mixture, then a layer of chopped Oreo chunks. Repeat the layers until the cup is full, finishing with a layer of the creamy mixture on top.

  6. Chill. Refrigerate the cups for at least 2 hours, or until fully set and chilled.

  7. Top and serve. Just before serving, sprinkle the remaining crushed Oreo crumbs and a few cookie pieces on top of each cup.

Note

You can swap the vanilla pudding for chocolate pudding if you want a richer, more chocolate-forward version. For an extra layer of flavor, drizzle a little melted chocolate or caramel sauce between the layers. If you're short on time, this recipe can be made in one large trifle dish instead of individual cups just increase the chill time slightly since the layers will be thicker.

Frequently Asked Questions

Expand All:

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes. Oreo Dessert Cups can be made up to 2 days in advance and kept covered in the refrigerator. Add the final crushed-cookie topping just before serving so it stays crunchy.

Can I use homemade whipped cream instead of Cool Whip?

Yes, whip 1 cup of heavy cream with 2 tablespoons of sugar until soft peaks form, and use it in place of the whipped topping in equal amount.

Why is my pudding layer runny?

This usually means the pudding wasn't given enough time to set before mixing, or too much milk was used. Let the pudding rest in the fridge for the full 5 minutes before combining it with the other layers.
